Tips

How to make your creations really shine!

Tip #1: Higher output resolution = fewer colors/range of shades.

Due to physical limits, a higher output resolution means losing shades of color or greyscale. Balance output resolution with color reproduction to find what will look best! (Note: 'min. shade' is the lowest available greyscale level after pure black.)

Tip #2: Dither to add simulated colors.

Dithering is used to help simulate having more available colors. At higher output resolutions the effect can be quite nice! But it limits hard edges and produces some minor artifacts. (Technically, the previewer uses a 2x2 pixel pattern dither.)

Tip #3: Match input image sizes.

All images for a pixlpane will be automatically resized to the output resolution. Thus it's best if all input images are the same size, ESPECIALLY if using pixel art!

Tip #4: Experiment!

This previewer is designed to be played with! Don't be afraid to click buttons (or the preview itself) and try things - refreshing will set everything back to normal.
